Pressekonferenz Rolf Ohler UNA Deutschland in Beirut Dezember 2009

Salaam,

Meeting Sheikh Haji Hassan already for the 7^th time during 2009 is a very great pleasure and honor for me. As a Member of the Christian Democratic Party of Germany (CDU) and a real friend of this beautiful country Lebanon, the last 12 months were a very touching and enthralling period of watching, concern and reliance about the future of Lebanon and therefore for the whole Situation in the Middle East Region. 

My first concern goes for Nawwar Abboud. I remember deeply about his kidnapping nearly exactly a year ago. Kidnapped during Christmas in Lebanon and transferred to Syria without any reason. Being an active representative of UNA was a reason enough for this unacceptable kidnapping. Since one year, no one knows anything about his destiny. I demand the new Lebanese Government to use all diplomatic channels to bring Nawwar Abboud immediately safe back to his family and friends in Lebanon. 

The safe return of Nawwar Abboud will be also a good signal for the present Syrian regime, that they are willing to accept international rules and being prepared to return in the international community of states. The present Alliance between Syria and Iran is a very big mistake for the future of Syria. Also asking Turkey, being a mediator in the peace process is not understandable for me, because also Turkey is still an occupying country on some territories.

I personally believe that Lebanon will have during the next year a very important position in the peace process for the whole region. The March 14^th movement will have a very important role in bringing Lebanon back to its original position. Out of various talks with Ministers and representations of Lebanese Forces, Kataeb and especially the Future Movement, I could get the deep feeling, that the coalition of March 14 is looking seriously for peace and a way to rebuild Lebanon back to the greatness of its past. 

For me as a German politician, March14 is a very good example also for Europe, to create real future oriented politics in overcoming borders between Parties for the sake of the nation. In my opinion the vision of Dr. Rifaat Al Assad and Ribal Al Assad with UNA United Nationals Alliance is an amiable example. It’s very important to support and adopt this vision, because this will be the way of long lasting Peace between Nations. 

With Sheikh Haji Hassan UNA has a very powerful and trustful Representative in Lebanon. As a political consultant, I will do my very best to also build future bridges between the various parties, religions and social structures. I’m ready to give all positive political consultancies also to the new Lebanese Government to help to rebuild this beautiful country. I’m in deep relation and friendship to Lebanon for more then 30 years and with very close brothers and friends like Sheik Hajj Hassan and other leading political people we will all be able to deepen the relationships between Lebanon, Germany and Europe. 

Personally I wish all the best for a great and peaceful future of Lebanon and I really hope that the Influence of Hezbollah will only get smaller and that the new Government will be able to disarm Hezbollah as soon as possible.  

I submit my deepest condolences for the death of Majd Al Assad to all the family along with the hope, that also Bashar Al Assad will find his way to freedom, democracy and human rights and will stop his coalition with Iran soon.

Es ist mir eine große Freude und Ehre, heute bereits zum 7. Male im Jahr 2009 in Beirut mit Sheikh Haji Hassan zusammentreffen zu dürfen. Als Mitglied der Christdemokratischen Partei Deutschlands und Freund des Libanon seit über 30 Jahren waren gerade die letzten 12 Monate für mich eine sehr bewegende und spannende Zeit der Beobachtung, Sorge aber auch der Zuversicht für die Zukunft des Libanon und somit auch der Situation im gesamten Bereich des nahen und mittleren Ostens.  

Mit großer Sorge erinnere ich mich an die Entführung von Nawwar Abboud, der fast genau vor einem Jahr als Repräsentant der United National Alliance aus nicht nachvollziehbaren Gründen aus dem Libanon offensichtlich nach Syrien verbracht wurde. Seither fehlt jede Spur von ihm. Ich fordere die neue libanesische Regierung auf, ueber den Verbleib von Nawwar Abboud auf diplomatischem Wege Nachforschungen anzustellen und die sichere Rückkehr von Nawwar Abboud zu bewerkstelligen.  

Damit kann auch das derzeitige syrische Regime ein Zeichen setzen, um in der Staatengemeinschaft als erstzunehmender Partner mit demokratischen Grundzügen anerkannt zu werden. Die derzeitige Allianz von Syrien mit dem Iran bewerte ich als großen und schweren strategischen Fehler. Ebenso ist der Vorschlag, die Türkei als Vermittler für die Friedensentwicklung einzusetzen, nicht nachvollziehbar, hat doch auch die Türkei noch immer ungerechtfertigt besetzte Terretorien inne. 

Persönlich glaube ich fest daran, dass der Libanon in den kommenden Jahren eine ganz entscheidende Rolle im Friedensprozess des mittleren Ostens spielen wird. Eine ganz wesentliche Rolle wird hierbei die Stärkung der March14 Koalition spielen. Aus etlichen Gesprächen mit Ministern und Repräsentanten von Libanese Forces und Kataeb, speziell auch des Future Movements kann ich heraushören, dass ein sehr ernsthafter Friedenwille und Aufbauwille für den Libanon besteht.  

Für mich als deutschen Politiker ist March 14 ein gutes Beispiel, wie man auch in Europa über Parteigrenzen hinaus Politik betreiben sollte. Ein ähnliches Beispiel sehe ich in der Vision von Dr. Rifaat Al Assad und Ribal Al Assad mit UNA United Nationals Alliance. Diese Vision ist zu unterstützen, wird sie dauerhaften Frieden zwischen den Nationen bringen. 

Mit Sheikh Haji Hassan ist die UNA im Libanon sehr stark und gut vertreten. Ich möchte auch in der Zukunft sehr gerne Brücken bauen zwischen den Parteien. Für die Zukunft bin ich zuversichtlich, auch im direkten politischen Consulting Bereich der neuen libanesischen Regierung bei dem Wiederaufbau des Landes helfen zu können. Mich verbindet mit dem Libanon eine seit über 30 Jahren bestehende enge Verbundenheit und Freundschaft. Und mit Freunden und Brüdern wie Sheikh Haji Hassan kann dies nur noch vertieft werden.

Ich persönlich wünsche dem Libanon eine friedliche Zukunft und ich hoffe, dass auch der Einfluss der Hisbollah abnimmt und die Entwaffnung bald stattfindet.  

Zum unerwarteten Tod von Majd Al Assad übermittel ich der gesamten Familie meine tiefe Kondolenz. Ich verbinde damit die Hoffnung, dass auch Bashar Al Assad sich künftig für Frieden, Freiheit und Gerechtigkeit in Syrien einsetzt und nicht mehr mit dem Regime im Iran einen Schulterschluss übt.
